BadLands RPG

BadLands RPG

Hiya Blade here (zenblade)

I play regularly on Badlands RPG, and at present i am leading the Guild " Free Traders ".

It may be that i have unwittingly changed the game dynamics of the Guild System by putting all my Chars and the Chars of my old " Dalakora " friends into this guild, hence making it currently the largest i believe. The intention was to change " Free Traders " into a safe society from the Evil Pk Guild as i understood them to be " House Thanatos " and also a Refuge from the unpronounable Polish Guild. I sought Alliance with " Blades of Honour " as all my chars are called " Something Blade " and as yet have had no contact with the " Silent Stalkers ".

What I believed was that my Chars did not have to PK even if they were Chaotic Evil , and hence like-minded players who just wanted to build their Chars could seek refuge together under Guild Colours.

What I failed to appreciate was that " Free Traders " was only created as a True Neutral or Neutral Guild. Hence theoretically my Paladins ( Lawful Good ) and my Crit Proof Evil Pale Masters etc plus any other char i made that didn't really fit the Alignment of " Free Traders ", should really have gone elsewhere to seek protection.

I didn't set out to spoil the game, i just wanted to make chars and keep my head below the parapet so to speak.

I do think however that if say " House Thanatos " got a monopoly on Boss killer types like Wizard or Sorceror Palemasters, and they went around PKing everyone, it might cause more of a problem, and some players might even leave. However the Crit Proof Pale Masters don't have to be evil ......they can be neutral too i believe.........

All the Best ..........Blade (zenblade)

Nice post, and thanks for posting it. I had a few thoughts.

I agree with your assessment that one guild having a monopoly on the ability to capture outposts would be detrimental to the game. That being said, other guilds could very easily make the same build that I used on Belpheron without making him Chaotic Evil. Also, while the Wiz/PM build excels at Boss Killing, it is by no means the only one that can accomplish the task. I used to be able to kill almost all the bosses before the crash using my Monk/Cleric/SD build. Also, a Wizard or Sorcerer with Epic Warding and Acid Sheath can easily kill bosses, they just have to use more Healing Kits.

The next thing I wanted to comment on was your guild. In no way did you ruin anything. There really are no strict rules governing the guilds (that I know of). Neutral guilds can (and have in the past) included alignments of all types. Also, the 'design' of the guild, that of the 'Free Traders' could encompass any alignment. Lawful Good characters need to trade, and if a Chaotic Evil character had the best prices, I'm betting the LG would get over it. There has always been strength in numbers, and sometimes desperate times make different alignments band together.

My last thought was on the topic of PK'ing people to the point of making the game unenjoyable. That has never been, nor will it ever be my objective. As I have said in other places, I'm not all that motivated by PK'ing, although I am the leader of an Evil PK guild. The only reason I created the guild in the first place is because no one else had, and it needed to be done. There are a select unlucky few that have earned my wrath, and I will do my best to terminate them repeatedly, but other than those, I'm pretty laid back. My desire is to make this server the best possible place to play the game. I think it's already a wonderful gaming experience, and I hope we can all work together to improve upon it.

Hey Blade,
I don't think your presence has "spoiled" the game at all. In fact, your being around has always enhanced the Badlands. It's always fun to party with a good hunter that knows what he's doing.
But I do disagree with you on one point- I don't believe being in a guild necessarily grants anyone instant protection from evil PKers... if anything, it exposes you even more. Let's say you have a level 40 Free Trader and Ball logs his level 60 Polish Legionnaire. He can PK you without penalty (well, Deurack and I would start hunting him immediately, so there would be a penalty). For example, Deurack's good buddy Ragnarok (shadow18234) was on with a 43 once, but wasn't in a guild... so I didn't want to rack up PK points on my level 49 Thanatos champion.
But have no fear for the Free Traders... Thanatos is currently feuding with the Polish Legion, so the neutral guilds can just step aside and let them slaughter each other :D

Deurack brings up a good point too... any alignment guild can have excellent boss killers. There are 3 bosses you don't want to tangle with without PM crit immunity: Drow WM, Rakshasa, and Frost Giant. But all others are easily beatable with a high caster. In fact, Bers (login Garble) and I are thinking of starting a "GOOD" guild. One that helps out newbies, can kill bosses, but most importantly can form up posses and hunt down evil PKers. There's some hypocrisy there for me though, since I have characters of all different alignments and it's weird to log a chaotic evil psychopath, PK an oki, then relog a "good or neutral" build and party up with the same guy I just PKed! But hey, that's just roleplaying I guess.
Finally, I'd like to invite you to join the Badlands RPG blog that Simon has had going for a while. You can e-mail him at ezuck@hotmail.com and he can send you an invite that will make you a contributor.
